great post!
i'm thinking of ways to quit my job and become a stay at home dad too. we're planning a kid next year and hopefully i'll be able to quit in
2 yrs. i'm trying to build up my passive income before then. My wife will probably start working [she's in grad school & doesn't work] so we'll be switching roles initially.

My husband also made a career change, from the computer industry into teaching. It was a hard adjustment, especially since I am a SAHM. I think you'll be surprised how much your quality of life improves as a family. There is also less social spending and entertaining: It's not like your colleagues are wearing designer suits or driving late model cars! My husband added extra income by coaching (10% added to his salary), going back to graduate school, and getting promoted to an administrative position. His salary has almost tripled in the 7 years since he switched to education. Good luck!
